Artists in Ireland

The Arts Council (An Chomairle EalaAon) and Arts Council Northern Ireland wish to retain a research consultant to identify and describe the socio-economic conditions and regulatory context of Artists in Ireland, to inform effective interventions for change to accord the conditions and status they deserve as workers and contributors to society. Researchers and research teams with proven socio-economic research expertise are invited to tender for this study.

The research objectives are:

1 Gather data on the socio-economic conditions of professional artists comparable to that contained in similar Arts Council (An Chomairle EalaAon) and Arts Council Northern Ireland studies, and to widely use social and economic norms, to measure and track trends and changes over time.

2 Provide an overview of changes in the macro-environment to set the context for analysis of the living and working conditions of professional artists.

3 Conduct a comparative international analysis of the socio-economic conditions of professional artists in Ireland, as documented in contemporary arts research.

4 Identify innovative measures in evidence internationally which might be applied or advocated for in Ireland, to support the professional artist, particularly in relation to the wider regulatory environment.

5 Present key findings for use by the Arts Council (An Chomairle EalaAon) and Arts Council Northern Ireland and other stakeholders (in the arts an related disciplines), to inform future expenditure, policy making and creation of responsive supports for professional artists in Ireland.
