Board Trustee opportunity

Arts Research Limited, publishers of Arts Research Digest, since 1994, are looking for two new trustees to join the Board as the Digest prepares to ‘go digital’, early in 2010. We are keen to identify individuals with particular skills and experience to help us realise the potential of this exciting development.

We would be particularly interested to hear from people with experience of on-line publishing or e-business development or professional development in the cultural sector. If you are based in the North East of England, this would be an added advantage.

What is Arts Research Limited?

Arts Research Limited is a small, charitable company, established in 1994. It is a Regularly Funded Organisation (RFO) of Arts Council England, North East and has its office in Corbridge. Annual grants are raised from the Scottish Arts Council, the Arts Council of Wales, Arts Council Ireland, and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and subscriptions make up about 25% of total income.

There are three part-time staff:

Annie Livesey, Executive Director

Nessa O’Mahony, Editor, who will be succeeded, in November, by Ann Winter

Carol Marshall, Administrator

The Board, which currently comprises six trustees, meets four times a year, in London. Expenses for Trustees who have to travel to meetings are reimbursed.

Why is Arts Research Limited looking for new Board members now?

We are in the process of moving from a paper-based publication and on-line archive, to an entirely on-line operation. We are looking for two people with a real interest in what we are doing and with knowledge and skills to complement those of our current Board members.

We are particularly keen to identify potential Board members with experience of on-line publishing, or of developing e-businesses in any sector, or of professional development in the cultural sector. Being based in the North East would be an added bonus.

Our current Board members are: Paul Allin (Chair), Stephen Boyce, Sarah Havens, Andy O’Hanlon, Sara Selwood and Phyllida Shaw. You can find their profiles on our website.

This is an unpaid role, but expenses incurred in attending Board meetings and other meetings or events, at the request of the Chair, are reimbursed.

What we would be asking of you

An in-principle commitment to serve on the Board for two years.

Participation in four Board meetings per year.

An active interest in the development of the company, including sharing information and ideas with fellow trustees and the staff team, between meetings.
